The U.S. government’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), associated with cost-cutting efforts championed by Elon Musk, officially concluded its operations on July 4. The initiative aimed to reduce federal spending by streamlining government agencies and cutting thousands of jobs across multiple departments.

Following the program’s closure, several federal agencies have reportedly begun recruiting and rehiring employees whose positions were previously eliminated. Officials say the move is intended to restore essential public services, improve operational efficiency, and address staffing shortages that emerged after the workforce reductions.

Supporters of the initiative argue that DOGE helped identify unnecessary spending and encouraged government modernization. Critics, however, contend that the rapid cuts disrupted key services and placed additional pressure on remaining employees..

The end of DOGE marks a new phase for federal agencies as they work to rebuild staffing levels while balancing fiscal responsibility with the need to maintain effective public services. The long-term impact of the program remains a subject of political debate.
