A severe heatwave sweeping across the United States has claimed at least 25 lives as dangerously high temperatures continue to affect large parts of the country. More than 20 states recorded temperatures above 100°F (38°C), with a powerful heat dome trapping hot air and creating prolonged periods of extreme heat.

Health officials have urged residents to stay indoors during the hottest hours, remain hydrated, and regularly check on elderly relatives, children, and vulnerable people.
