Hungary’s government has introduced a constitutional bill that could remove the country’s president, a figure widely regarded as being politically aligned with Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The proposed legislation is part of a broader package of constitutional reforms aimed at reshaping the balance of power within Hungary’s political system.

Supporters of the bill argue that the changes are necessary to strengthen democratic institutions, improve accountability, and ensure that the presidency remains politically neutral. However, critics have expressed concern that the proposal could deepen political divisions and spark fresh constitutional disputes.

The move comes at a time when Hungary continues to face close scrutiny from the European Union over issues related to the rule of law, judicial independence, and democratic governance. Political analysts believe the outcome of the bill could significantly influence the country’s domestic political landscape and its relationship with European partners.

The proposal will now be debated in parliament before lawmakers decide whether to approve the constitutional amendments
